Agostino Marengo is Associate Professor of Computer Science at the University of Foggia, Department of Agricultural, Food, Natural Resources and Engineering Sciences (DAFNE), and holds the Italian National Scientific Qualification as Full Professor. A university researcher since 2005, he now works on interpretable machine learning for healthcare. Since 2009 he has been co-founder and President of OSEL.
First in information systems for learning, today in healthcare data. The steps, with the dates from the CV.
The current line applies machine learning and interpretable AI to healthcare: hospital efficiency and resource allocation, clinical risk prediction, medical imaging, governance of foundation models in clinical practice. It grew out of three decades of data-driven learning systems: learning analytics, adaptive learning, serious games, soft skills assessment, AI in higher education. The methods are the same; the application domain changed.
Since 2005 he has coordinated four European Tempus projects and two Erasmus+ projects. Since 2026 he leads the University of Foggia unit in HELIX-SMART (2026-2028), an Interreg VI-A Greece-Italy 2021-2027 project on innovation ecosystems. Since 2022 he is scientific coordinator for the University of Foggia in the national Digital Education Hub partnership, led by the University of Modena and Reggio Emilia.

Scopus includes only indexed journals and proceedings. Google Scholar counts everything it finds online. OpenAlex lists works with a persistent identifier. The numbers differ because they measure different things: all three are here, with the reading date. "Over 100 publications", on the home page, is the OpenAlex count.
